Wrapping up our participation in PERTE VEC – Digital Solutions and Data for Advanced Mobility
Smart Mobility Solutions SL, the Spanish subsidiary of Iomob, is just closing its participation in “PERTE VEC – Digital Solutions and Data for Advanced Mobility” (grant VEC-020100-2022-219), part of a multi-year national programme that brought together automotive engineering and research centres, technology firms and mobility start-ups under one roof. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with this diverse consortium has allowed us to pressure-test every layer of our Mobility-as-a-Service stack—from the routing engine to the developer tooling—against real operational scenarios supplied by our partners. The result is a production-grade platform that now plans journeys across two continents, consumes live GTFS-RT feeds from multiple networks, and embeds car-sharing, rentals, taxis and micromobility in a single flow that end users experience as one seamless trip.
For Smart Mobility Solutions, PERTE VEC became the catalyst for several landmark upgrades: our regional sub-graph architecture reduced latency while expanding coverage; a new geocoding orchestrator balanced Apple, Google and open-source data for pinpoint accuracy; and an offline mode ensured that tickets and QR codes stay usable even when connectivity vanishes in long tunnels or rural stretches. We also piloted WheelCoin, a token on the Celo blockchain that rewards travellers for choosing low-carbon trips—merging the worlds of sustainable transport and tokenised incentives. Throughout the project we published every new microservice as gRPC and documented everything on a developer portal, making it dramatically easier for future partners to plug-and-play.
Wrapping up this chapter, we want to thank all consortium members for the data, feedback and candid conversations that helped turn bold ideas into deployable code. The advances forged under PERTE VEC are already rolling back into the global Iomob platform, giving city apps, railway companies and fleet operators faster routing, richer real-time data and a clear path toward blockchain-enabled incentives. As we look to the next wave of deployments, our mission remains unchanged: power friction-free, low-carbon journeys at planetary scale—one seamlessly orchestrated kilometre at a time.
Iomob has been co-funded by the Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo of the Government of Spain, and the European Union’s Next Generation EU funds.
